How Is It Treated?
Treatment for chronic neck pain usually follows a stepwise approach, beginning with non-operative options. Physical therapy is a foundational intervention, emphasizing exercises to build strength, increase flexibility, and improve posture. Therapeutic education can reduce recurrence rates by identifying and modifying factors like poor ergonomics or repetitive strain.
Prescription medications may be used to manage discomfort. For symptoms that do not improve with basic therapies, injections may be indicated. Facet joint injections or epidural steroid injections target inflammation in specific regions and may provide temporary pain relief or aid diagnosis. Trigger point injections treat persistent muscle pain.
